Your website
- The homepage says in one sentence what you do and where. Example: “Family and emergency dentistry in Shoreditch, London.”
- One page per main service, with the service and area in the page title and heading.
- Address, phone, opening hours and service area written as text, not only inside an image or map embed.
- An about page with real names, how long you have operated, qualifications or licences you actually hold.
- Prices or price ranges where your industry allows it. Assistants are often asked about cost.
- schema.org structured data for your business type, with the same details as the visible page.
- The site loads without a login wall or cookie gate that hides the content from crawlers.
Listings and directories
- Google Business Profile claimed, verified, with the right primary category and current hours.
- Apple Business Connect and Bing Places claimed with the same details.
- The two or three directories that matter in your industry (for example a dental association finder, a bar association listing, or a trade body’s member search).
- Name, address and phone written the same way everywhere. Old addresses removed or corrected.
Reputation you earn, not buy
- A steady habit of asking customers for honest reviews, following each platform’s rules.
- Replies to reviews that mention the service, which adds useful context.
- Real third-party mentions: local news, community guides, supplier or partner pages, event listings.
- Never buy reviews or post fake ones. Platforms remove them, regulators in several countries act against them, and they are wrong.
Then measure
Ask AI assistants the questions your customers ask, write down the answers, and repeat on a schedule. Our free scan does the first round for you and lists which competitors were named and which pages were cited, so you can see where to start.
Questions
How long until changes show up in AI answers?
There is no reliable timetable. Search-grounded answers can reflect a change once the page is re-crawled, which can take days or weeks. Answers from training data may lag much longer. Re-check on a schedule rather than expecting a fixed date.
Do I need an llms.txt file?
It is a proposed convention, not a standard that the major assistants have committed to for local recommendations. It does no harm, but a clear website and accurate listings matter far more.
