Multi-location businesses: getting each location into AI answers

A business with several locations has a particular problem in AI answers: the assistant may know the brand but not which office serves which town, may mix up hours or phone numbers between branches, or may only ever mention the head office. Each location needs its own clear, public facts.

Common mix-ups

  • The main phone number or head-office address shown for every town.
  • Hours or services of one branch attributed to another.
  • A closed or moved location still described as open.
  • Only the best-known location mentioned, even for questions about another town.
  • Practitioners listed at the wrong office.

Give every location its own page and listing

  1. 01One page per location with its address, phone, hours, the services offered there and the people who work there.
  2. 02One map listing per real location (Google Business Profile, Apple Maps, Bing Places), each linking to its own location page, not the homepage.
  3. 03Structured data (schema.org LocalBusiness or the specific type) on each location page with that location’s details only.
  4. 04A locations index page that links to every branch, so both people and crawlers can find them.
  5. 05When a location closes or moves, mark it on the listing and update or redirect its page the same week.

Keep the brand consistent, and the details separate

Use the same brand name everywhere, with the location as a qualifier where your listing platform allows it (follow each platform’s naming rules). Shared content such as service descriptions can live on central pages, but anything that differs by branch (hours, staff, services, parking, languages) belongs on the location page.

Check location by location

Run the free scan separately for each location’s town and compare. Then ask an assistant by name about each branch (“What are the hours of [brand] in [town]?”) to see whether it mixes them up. The by-name check is where cross-location errors usually show.

Questions

Do I need a separate website for each location?

No. Separate pages on one site, each with complete details, are usually easier to keep accurate than several websites.

One location is named and the others never are. Why?

Often the named one has more public information: an older listing, more reviews that mention it, local press. Compare the sources cited for each town to see what the quieter locations are missing.
